Easy (Microwave) Halloween Carmel Corn

In honor of Halloween today I am posting a really great recipe that I stumbled on last week when I was looking for a fall snack for watching this...

I was looking for a different recipe when I found this one in a cookbook my mom gave me. It is super easy and super yummy! So here we go.

Carmel Corn
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. Karo syrup
pinch of salt
1 t. vanilla
1/4 t. soda
6 qt. popped popcorn
(three bags of microwave popcorn, any flavor)
In a glass bowl, put brown sugar, Karo syrup, butter, and salt, microwave on high for 2 minutes. Stir and microwave for 2 more minutes. Add vanilla, baking soda and stir together and pour over 6 popped popcorn in a brown paper sack. Stir with large spoon and shake bag. Roll down top of sack and microwave 1 1/2 minutes on high. Shake. Microwave 1 1/2 minutes more. Pour onto large pan or bowl and let cool. Break apart and enjoy!

This recipe makes ALOT of popcorn, so you may want to bag some up and share with some friends. It is ready in about 10 minutes and gone in about 5 minutes. I love this flavor, because it reminds me of Cracker Jacks. So good! Hope you enjoy it! Hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween!

Jack o Lantern Breakfast

I saw this idea on the Idea Room but made my own simpler version, because I was in a hurry and didn't have any pumpkin. This is just my regular pancake batter colored orange and green with chocolate chips. They were yummy and I have had several requests since making these. We have fun with our pancakes around the farm. Enjoy!

Autumn in the Country

I don't get to go to cute bazaars very often anymore, with time, money, and location constraints, but I had a few(and I mean few) minutes on Saturday. I stopped at one that I went to last year but did not take any money to purchase. BIG MISTAKE! There were lots of venders with really cute items for sale.

 So, Landon and I headed down the back country road in search of all things fall! Landon's favorite part is the large farm truck parked in the yard with all the pumpkins around.

 Isn't that just cute! I love all the unique gourds and pumpkins they have all around . My favorites are the gray gourds. They are so creepy looking.

 This year I did make a few little purchases and this little hand stitched sign was first on the list. Ok, so a strawberry Italian Soda came first because it was quite a warm day.

 I just love the tiny little leaves that are stitched in the patter. So cute!

 I also found this SUPER yummy potpourri at one booth and it smelled so devine that I had to buy a scoop. I just loved the tiny little pumpkins in the mix. My living room smells SO good right now!

Landon found the worlds tiniest picnic table. Even he was too big for it!

Last but not least is this adorable little fabric pumpkin. Isn't it just the sweetest little thing? I just love the fabric, and it smells like vanilla too. Bonus!

I just love fall and had a good time, even though Landon had a potty accident and we had to stop shopping right in the middle of it. He ended up wearing his pj's bottoms around because that was all I had with me! Go figure! Life with boys is never dull for sure.

Trick or Treat

It's that scary time of year again. We went to the city trick or treat and had so much fun. The weather was beautiful and we got to see lots of friends around town.
Addison chose to be Rosalie from Twilight, Logan was Iron Man, and Landon had a hard time choosing between a pirate and a cowboy, cowboy won out.

Trick or Treat!

The kids has so much fun trick or treating. We were able to kick the flu just in time to go. They went to two different town trick or treats, where businesses hand out candy, and our church also has a Trunk or Treat. I don't know if you have ever heard of those, but they are great. You meet in the church parking lot, and sometimes have a dinner of some sorts inside, then line up all the cars and create a safe "Candy Alley" between the cars. The kids go around 3 or 4 times and come home with quite a bit of loot!

Landon was so cute this year. He knew exactly what to do and man he worked that chubby little pumpkin costume. He would hold up his bucket and say, "Wee Weet." So darn adorable that people would give him extra candy just for being so darn cute.

Logan was our crazy pirate this year. Aaaarrrrgggghhh, Maties! We had to work really hard to get him to let us do the fake mustache and beard. He was having none of it until we pulled out the Pirates of the Caribbean movie and showed him how cool Jonny Depp what with his little bit of facial hair. It took some doing, but we finally convinced him. He got lots of compliments on his "rad" beard. (I am soooo dating myself with that slang word.

Addison was as adorable as ever in her super sweet "Kitty" costume. She got a ton of candy and even helped Daddy pass it out at the Trunk or Treat. She ended up with the biggest pile of candy you ever saw. She is such a hoarder that she will still have some at Christmas. Way to go Addison!

Happy Halloween!

The time is here! Kids 2nd favorite holiday! Who doesn't love getting free candy for dressing up and being cute! I thought I would share some fun photos of the crazy holiday fun. With the kids being home sick this week with the swine flu Halloween has been a bit down played around here. We did finally get around to carving pumpkins with the kids, and on Halloween I am going to make Candy Corn Cookies with them, but other than that we have not done much.

Here is Logan with his masterpiece! He (I) worked very hard on it. We ended up carving the little sugar pumpkins because the warty pumpkins we got from our neighbors were like trying to cut through steel. I called to ask if they had problems carving and she said her husband had to use a saw and drill to carve his. He said he was afraid he was going to cut himself, so we opted to paint ours. I was in no mood for a broken knife and trip to the ER.

Being Silly

Addison with her work of art. She actually did most of hers by herself. I had to do the mouth, but she did everything else by herself. She is such a big girl!


I found this great picture of a front porch on Better Homes and Gardens. Isn't is a fun front porch. If we got any tricker treaters I would want to do this on my front porch. I just love the trees, so spooky.

This pumpkin terrifies me. I wouldn't put my hand anywhere near that bowl, except if I had PMS and REALLY needed some high fructose corn syrup. But other than that, hands off!

This one just creeped me out. I am still having shivers from it. I am pretty sure this one is going to find its way into my dreams tonight! Yuck!

Only a guy would do something like this! No woman in her right mind would have this hideous thing in front of her house. Can you imagine Martha having her people make something like this up? I think she would rather go back to jail!

Halloween Party

The kids got invited to a great Halloween party and had so much fun. My friend Heather is a great party thrower. She had tons of candy and lots of yummy treat to eat. She was such a good sport too, dressing up in a granny outfit. She looked hilarious.

All the kids lined up and were judged for their costumes. There were some really great ghosts, fairies and vampires. The winner was Logan's friend Trenton who was a gangster. His costume was great.
Addison is going to be a Kitty Cat this year, and Logan is a swat team member. They both had a ton of fun and came home with lots of candy. Let the sugar high begin!

Oops, I forgot!

I am such a dork! I forgot to participate in dear Sharon's fun Halloween Blog Party. I just remembered when I went to her super cute site and saw all the fun things that she has done! Run over to her blog Fibberdoodles and Whimsy and check out all the fun stuff.

So here is my little Halloween post.

This is a fun cake that we made last Halloween. It is a scary Frankenstein cake and the kids LOVED it! It was super cinchy to make too. The best part is that it was really yummy.
It got the idea and recipe from one of those cute little cookbooks that are at the check stand. It was full of fun and spooky treats. I think I need to dust it off for this year and get busy.

Frankenstein Cake

1 boxed cake mix

1 can white frosting

1 can chocolate frosting

Green Food Coloring

2 tootsie roll midges

1 peanut butter cup

2 red gumdrop slices

1 orange gumdrop slice

1 large marshmallow

4 Candy Corns

Prepare cake mix according to package directions, baking in a 9X13 pan. Cool cake. Mix green food coloring into white frosting. Mix and spread on cake for the skin color. In a pastry bag (or cut a hole in the corner of a Ziploc) and pipe on the hair, scars, and chin. Cut marshmallow in half and put on 1/2 of one red gumdrop for the eyes. Smoosh the remaining red and orange gumdrop slice for the nose and mouth. Use frosting to make the candy corn stick to the mouth. Slice the peanut butter cup and place the midge and peanut butter cup for the bolts on the neck. Slice and enjoy a bite of monster.

This is our favorite Halloween movie. We watch it every year together. We just love those crazy witches. It is already in our Netflix box for this year.

This is my very goofy Aunt and Uncle who dressed up last year as Shrek & Fiona. Aren't they hilarious! What good sports they are. The really funny part is that they are school bus drivers for their little school! Can you imagine the kids delight when the school bus doors open and Shrek or Fiona is sitting there driving! Love it!

Trunk or Treat/Carnival

We had so much fun at the trunk or treat, we ate chili, played games, and came home with a ton of candy.


Addison planned on being a witch, but ended up having a wardrobe malfunction (the non-Janet Jackson kind, thankfully) with her skirt. So after the Halloween party she decided to be a cowgirl with mommy. She looks ready for the rodeo.


Is this an excited child or what. Robb and I had not even gotten in the house and she had the candy dumped out and was chowing down.

Logan could not contain his excitement. There was nothing but candy flashing in his eyes.


Landon,even at 7 months, new what trick or treating was all about. As I walked around with him and the kids and he saw them getting treats and started to through a fit until I handed him some candy. Yes, that is a tootsie roll hanging out of his mouth. He loved sucking on it.

Spooky Costumes

Ok,I got everyone dressed and ready for Halloween. My scary munchkins are very frightful aren't they? Addison is a beautiful witch, Logan is a spooky glow-in-the-dark skeleton, and Landon is a ferocious lion. We are off to the Trunk or Treat Carnival tonight for a ghoulishly good time! Trick or Treat! Does anyone ever give tricks? I guess that is the job of the candy companies, with hyper children and belly aches!

Spooky Oooky Time!

It was time for our annual pumpkin carving night. A night that brings ooohhhs and aaaahhhs and even a few Uuuuggggs from mommy & daddy. The kids each chose the design they wanted and stood by and watched mommy and daddy make them come to life. It is a lot of work for us, but the thought of a small saw in the hands of Logan is more terrifying than the Michael Jackson "Thriller" video, or Michael Jackson period. We cut, de-gooped, carved, candled, pictured and had dessert in an hour and a half. That is a miracle family night in our house! All said and done it was a very fun night. Our porch looks very spooky oooky!
