November This and That

I had several pictures that were not really related to much of anything, but still fun. So, I decided to post them together in one fun mish mash of topics.

 Logan made a really neat model of the world. He had to take a picture because I had no idea how to store this for posterity. You can already see the cracks in it. He did a great job and it was a really fun project for him.

 Landon made this cute little feather head band at school for fall. You can tell by the look on his face that he is pretty proud of it.

 Logan finished up his last game for soccer. Here he is with his medal and his favorite soccer buddy Brett. They have been playing together since they were 4 and were so excited to be on the same team.

 We let Honey Bee come visit in the house one day and she loved running all over the couch. She is sniffing Addison and I think Addison is a little scared! Maybe she is afraid of goat cooties.

I just love crisp fall mornings. The front yard just looked so beautiful that I had to grab the camera.

Strange Ice Flowers

The other morning I was headed out to feed the goats and came upon these strange little ice flowers in the grass. They were the strangest ice formation I had ever seen.

They came right out of the grass and were paper thin little flowers. I picked one up and it was nothing but ice and quickly melted in my hand.

The picture does not do them justice. Water does amazing things with cold air involved.

Have any of you ever seen anything like this in your area? I would love to learn how they form.

I love Fall

I discovered this yummy treat at the grocery store the other day and it was so yummy. It makes me love fall even more. The bonus is that it is "light" and therefore less calories. What more could a girl ask for.

A love affair

I am beginning a new love affair. Yes, my husband knows about it and is a bit jealous in fact. I am in love with my new smart phone. Frivolous, I know, but it is so handy to keep in touch wherever I go. It does trick my other phone couldn't even dream of. I can text, twitter, email, facebook and shop, and even find my way around town with this sleek little guy. My heart goes pitter pat every time I hear it ring. Aaaaaaa amour, it is a wonderful thing.

So here's to my new love. May we have many happy times together.

Mother's Day

Mother's

I want to thank my husband and children for making my Mother's Day wonderful. They went all out and I appreciate it more than they could ever know. I love them very much and am so glad that I am their wife and mother.

I also want to wish my Mom wonderful Mother's Day. She is more than my Mother, she is my friend. I am so thankful for her relationship with my Sister and I. She is more important in our lives that she realizes. Happy Mother's Day Mom!

New Pet

This weekend I helped a good friend with her daughters wedding. Her daughter happened to be my kids babysitter when she was in high school. They loved her to death and she was a really wonderful babysitter. So now she is all grown up and married. What does this have to do with the title of this post you ask? Well for the centerpieces they made a little Eco system with flair, and for helping I got to choose of the of centerpieces.

They bought the kit at Michael's for $3.50. Then they bought the plant and a beta fish. The system is suppose to work by the plant feeding the fish with it's algae growth, and the fish feeds the plant with it's poop. Yes, I just said poop in my post. Sorry!

This plant is called a peace lily and the fish is a Betta (Siamese Fighting Fish). Funny that a peace plant and a fighting fish live together. My friend calls it a War and Peace decoration.

So here is our newest pet addition. We first named it Katelyn for the girl who got married, but then I was doing a little research on Betta fish and found out that they are all males, because they are more showy than females. So if anyone has a good boy name for our newest pet, please do share.


Isn't he pretty? Landon is totally fascinated with him and won't stay off the table. We may have to find a new place to put the fish besides the kitchen table.

This fish is kind of funny, it watches me when I am working on the computer.

We did it!

So we went and did it. Yes, we got TV back in our lives. We have a true love/hate relationship with the TV. We get it for a while and then get sick of spending too much time in front of it and all the junk that is on, so we get rid of it. We have not had TV for two years now, but recently felt the itch to get it again.
So here we go for a while, we will see how long it lasts. I must admit that it is nice to sit down with a mountain of laundry and fold while I watch Dr. Oz or Oprah. I am also an American Idol junkie and Dancing with the Stars nut. Deep I know. This is one of my favorites...

...even though my sister-in-law thinks he looks like Bucky Covington! As if! I think it is her pregnant brain messing with her vision! :)

I just have to say that I feel bad for Kate. I am all for Mom power and so glad she is doing something fun, but girl your kids are right and you can't dance. I try not to be a meanie, but I am soooo uncomfortable watching her dance.

So now you know why I have not posted in a week and a half! I am off to veg for the night! What are your favorites? Let me know if I am missing something good!

First signs of spring

I have been feeling very whimsical about spring coming. We have had such a mild, pleasant winter that its has felt like spring for a while now. The trees are budding, the tulips and just bursting from the ground and my weeping cherry tree is in full bloom. There are even pink hyacinths blooming under the tree. It is such a wonderful feeling when the seasons change. There is a sense of excitement in the air. Fall and spring are my favorite seasons because they are the changing seasons, with the awakening of the ground in spring and the settling in for rest in the fall.

The first sign of spring I look for are the Robins. Their bright red breast and chipper call always tell me it is time. The spring showers are in full force here today on the farm and all morning I have been watching the Robins doing their funny little run across the yard listening for worms. Have you ever sat a watched a Robin run across the ground then suddenly stop, tilt it's head, and listen for the silent creeping of a worm. I am always fascinated by this little dance. What do they hear? What does a worm sound like? What makes them stop and listen? Funny little birds with their flash of white around their eyes.

I found this cute little children's poem on a teaching website and I thought I would share it with you. You can think of it the next time you see a Robin splashing around in a puddle or birdbath.

The Robin's Bath

I also wanted to share with you a wonderful book on nature called The Country Dairy of an Edwardian Lady" by Edith Holden. It is not a common book, and is not in print anymore. But it is the most beautifully drawn and detailed book about nature. This woman had a wonderful knowledge of the country around her and the beautiful talent for drawing the things she saw.

This is a book that I have wanted for a very long time. It is one of the books that I am always on the look out for when I find a book sale or antiques store. Someday I will stumble across one and make it a treasure. I hope you enjoy it if you ever come across it. Enjoy the bird music and spring slide show too. Happy spring.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Who doesn't love Dr. Seuss! What a wonderful contribution to our children! What would this world be like without Whoville, Horton, The cat in the hat, and Wockits.

Such a creative mind. I have a hard time reading Fox in Socks, let alone coming up with it!

I hope you dig up some Dr. Seuss books and read them just to honor his memory, even if you don't have kids at home anymore. I won't tell!

Monster Trucks Next Door

Our next door neighbor is a Monster Truck mechanic. How many of you can say that about your neighbor kid? He used to feed our animals for us when we would go out of town, and endlessly entertain us on his motorcycle on the track out back. He may even become a driver one day!

He works for the owner of the Grave Digger series of Monster trucks. They are based out of North Carolina, and when we were back there a few years ago we got to see the place that he lives and works from. Tanner will be traveling across the country, Europe, South America and Japan. That is quite the job for world traveling.

Here is Miss Addison taking her turn sitting in the truck. The seat is in the middle instead of the left side like normal cars. There is nothing NORMAL about these trucks. They are 1500 horsepower, thrill ride monsters. One of the guys with Tanner said he was sore for days after driving this truck and jumping it.

Of course Landon and Daddy had to take a turn inside the truck. How many chances do you get in your life to sit in a $170,00 truck!

Here is Tanner (in the middle) with his partners in crime.

This is the truck that Tanner works on regularly. It is called Iron Man, just like the movie. It even has pipes coming out the back that shoot out flames. Do you think I could get a set of those on my van? It would make tailgaters think twice wouldn't it?

These are the tires that go on the trucks. I am 5'8 and I could barely see over the top of these things.

This is the truck that these two monsters ride around in with their 8 tires. It is a bit of a squeeze to get everything in! I am pretty sure that 1/2 of our town has been over to see these trucks. It was pretty funny. Only in the sticks! Trust me, we soooooo live in the sticks. It's great!

It's Happened!

So, as you know that Hubby and I went with a bunch of friends to see New Moon on Saturday night. We had a great time. Dinner was full of witty banter and good food. The movie was soooo good and then it happened. Hubby said that he liked the movie so much that he wanted to read the books, and I was like...
You see I have been trying to get him to read the books for three years now! I think he was secretly afraid that if other men found out he would loose some sort of masculine credibility with the "guys"!
I was surprised when he liked the first movie, and even more shocked (see above picture) when he wanted to horn in on my girls night and go see New Moon. Now, the book reading has begun, and like many of you know they are just a teensy bit addicting, and this is where I found him at 2:00 pm instead of his office working.

I am pretty sure this will be the Thanksgiving without my husband due to this addicting series! Wish me luck. Paybacks are heck for sure!

Howling at the Moon!

The babysitter is called, the dinner reservations are set, the tickets are bought, and excitement is in the air. We have a big group going together to see the New Moon movie tonight! I am so excited for a night on the town. I admit that I am a Twilight junkie, and have read all the books many times. I hope it's good!

Embarrased to admit!

I admit it, finally. I have been in denial for a good 6 months now. I don't know exactly why I held out so long, but here it is! I love Twilight! Ok, that part is not that big of revelation. Anyone who knows me, knows that I really love the books and have read them several time, with the exception of New Moon. I could only handle that one once. Why you ask? Duh, Edward wasn't in that one very much! I know I am getting way off subject, you're here to see what I did...I bought Twilight movie merchandise!

I know I know, I said I never would, but I was lured in by sweet temptations, and who can resist a well planned advertising scheme, not to mention the curiosity to see what is beyond the clever and enticing packaging! I broke down and bought.........Twilight Sweethearts (conversation hearts) in four "Forbidden Fruit Flavors"!


I admit it, I am weak. I have bravely fought off the onslaught of movie mayhem, and overwhelming influx of t-shirts, books, magazine covers, book marks, and even make-up. I swore I would not buy a "Bite-Me" t-shirt or an I heart Edward Cullen bumper sticker. (Even though I secretly do) Ssshhhhh, don't tell my husband, he gets a bit jealous of my fascination with fictitious characters.


How could I resist the sugar and corn syrup calling out to me, and those sultry flavors hypnotizing my will to resist, Orange Obsession, Tempting Apple, Passion Fruit (it even sparkles), and Secret Strawberry. Don't they sound dangerous and naughty?!? You know you're tempted to run out and get some to see if they are all they are "sparkled" up to be! I must admit it was a teeny bit of a let down. I had to scour the box or this next picture. Not very many of the words are legible. Someone needs to do some quality control over at Necco. We twilight girls do have are standards you know.


I did manage to find a few cute ones. There is even one that says Forks on it! How fun is that.
You may not know that I live very close to Forks, within easy driving distance, but I have restrained myself, again too embarrassed to get sucked into the crazy mayhem. Plus I have a bit of an overactive scaredy cat gene and I am just the slightest bit worried there are real vampires up there. I even get scared when I go out to the barn and night because there are woods close to my house and it is dark and a vampire could be across the field in the blink of an eye and get me you know.
Although I know Edward would never do that because....I heart Edward Cullen!


In my sane rational mommy mind I know that vampires are not real, but dang that Stephenie Meyer for her great use of imagery! Run girls! Run out and get some! I'll wait, let me know what you think!
