Are they rocks or eggs?

For the past three springs we have had a resident family of Killdeer birds in our pasture. We have leftover rocks in our field from the septic drain field, which is the best cover for killdeer eggs. They do not build any type of nest for their precious little ones, they just plop them down on the ground. I honestly don't know how they get any babies raised with our goats and horse clomping around out there all the time, but some how they have success.

Can you pick them out of the rocks? Do you know which ones are eggs? I'll give you a hint, there are three of them together. Any luck?

They are next to Logan's romeo. They are a lot bigger than I expected them to be. We almost had a bit of a disaster, because the goats were showing off while we were out there and almost trampled them. Pearl stepped right next to the one egg, and I am sure brushed it. My heart stopped for a few beats. I just froze, I couldn't even do anything. Wouldn't that be great to explain to the mother Killdeer, "Sorry for your loss, but I was trying to get some good pictures for my blog post. Better luck next year!" I am sure she would peck my eyes out and say "Do you have any idea how much that egg hurt coming out!" To which I could reply honestly, "Yes, have you seen the size of my kids, they hurt too!" Anyway, disaster barely averted, and we left quickly so not to cause any real damage.

The little ones will be out in a few weeks and they are the darn cutest things you have ever seen. Stay tuned for them to appear. They are worth the wait. If I can get a good close up of them.

We have them in our yard too. Only, it's in our front law and the husband has to watch out for them when he cuts the grass. You'll see little clumps where he has gone around them. I love to watch these speedy birds racing around on the ground.
