Applesauce Tradition

It is getting to that time of year when the fruit and veggies are plentiful and we need to start storing up for the winter. So, my Mom, Sister, and I got together and canned 6 boxes of gravenstein apples into applesauce. They turned into 58 quarts of golden yumminess.

We slice and heat the apples until tender and soft to make it through the strainer. Addison was our helper this time. The kids all love running the strainer. My sister and I have memories of doing the same job when we were her age. Can you believe that thing is still working?

Don't you just want to slather some of that on a biscuit? I think I know what we are having for breakfast tomorrow morning.
Just the beginning of our collection! We don't use a specific recipe, our recipe is add enough sugar until it tastes good, but we do like to add flavorings like vanilla, almond, or cinnamon. I tried maple flavoring one year, but my family didn't like is as well.

The strainer decided to not cooperate while Logan was having his turn turning the handle and this is what happened. We were so lucky that those piping hot apples didn't land on anyone. The only bad thing was that the floor was sticky for the rest of the day.

I remember this from last year. Great tradition, and WHO doesn't like applesauce?? Great homemade gift option too!
