I Remember, and Never Will Forget.

I remember this horrible day so clearly. It is funny how the mind burns images and feelings about large scale events in our lives. So many remember where they were when Pearl Harbor was attacked and many more remember that horrible day 10 years ago.
I remember that I was feeding Addison breakfast, she was 6 months old at the time, and did not have the TV on. My Mom called me and told me to turn on the TV. I went into the other room, turned on the TV and didn't hardly move for 3 days. I watched the second plane hit the tower and felt my heart stop for a few beats. My brain was burning that image in, but my heart could not catch up and understand what just happened. I felt frozen in time. I can recall that shock with perfect clarity even as I type this.
I remember having nightmares of Osama Bin Laden and cloaked men creeping down the hillside behind our house with guns in their hands. I remember feeling survivor guilt, for the fact that something so horrific hardly made a dent in my life safely on the other side of the country. I remember being a little fearful when I saw a plane fly over my house for the first time in days. I still worry in the back of my mind that I will be driving somewhere and a plane will come out of nowhere and crash near me.
I also remember an amazing show of allegiance and pride in our country. Flags where flown, bumper stickers were applied and songs were written. It brought our country together and people remembered why this is the greatest country in the world. It is the greatest because we are one giant melting pot of traditions and beliefs, and somehow it all works.
I will remember to teach me children about this day and never forget the sacrifices of those who were lost. I love this country and am so grateful to be a citizen of its borders. With all our problems we are still a wonderful country, may we remember God in all that we do so that he in turn will bless our country and our lives. God Bless the USA.

It is sad that it took something so horrific to happen to bring us together. How I wish we could get that feeling of patriotism back without something terrible happening. Humility seems to have been a virtue easily forgotten.
