Saying Good Bye

Well, I have been holding off the bad news for a week now, but I guess I better let it go. Fred, our resident hay muncher has gone to a new home. Hubby and I have been talking about it for a while now. We just don't have quite enough land for him, and feeding gets expensive in the winter. We also want to get more goats for showing and can't do that with him here.

It was hard, until I put him up on Craiglist and got so many wonderful people interested in giving him a good home. I ended up choosing a family who lives about 1 1/2 hours from us. I was really nervous until we got there and I met them. I think they are going to give him a wonderful home. He will be ridden more, and has a horse buddy to hang with. The fun thing was that it was the gal's Christmas present, so I felt a little like Santa. So I said my fair wells and let him go. I am not sad for him because I think he will be happier, not to mention a good horse for them.

Hubby says that we will get horses again someday. I am holding him too that. I can't go too long without the smell and warm mane of a horse in my life. For now I will go and smell the saddle blanket!

Awe Maria! That must have been a hard post to write. i'm sure that you both made the right decision. Fred will enjoy the extra space I'm sure.

Ahhh.... I bet he's made friends already. I'm sure that was really hard, but I'm guessing it was for the best. You have a lot of good pictures of him, and I bet they'll keep you posted.

I know that was hard to do, it's like losing a family member. But knowing your love of horses this won't be the end of your horse career. In time...in time.

I'm sorry you had to give him up, he is a sweet horse. I cherish this time in our lives with having young families, but it will also be nice to have more time for our own pursuits in the future.
