Cream Peas and Potatoes

Well after harvesting all those yummy potatoes yesterday I just had to make something yummy with them for dinner. I also got a few peas from the garden a few weeks ago and decided to make something I remember from my childhood. Ceamed Peas and Potatoes is something I remember my Grandmother making. I remember it becase it was DANG good, even as a kid I would eat it. You know it's yummy if kids eat it!

So here is the recipe. I called my mom and pulled together a recipe out between the two of us. I hope it turns out OK for you, it did for me. Hubby loved it!

Cream Peas & Potatoes
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. flour
1 1/2 c. milk
1 c. 1/2 & 1/2
1/2 white onion, finely chopped
Salt & Pepper to taste
1/2 tsp. sugar
8 medium sized red potatoes
3/4 c. peas

Boil potatoes for 20 minutes or until tender. Pour in peas during the last two minutes. You can also through them in the microwave with a bit of water to get them soft. Over medium heat saute onions and butter until onions are tender. Adds flour and mix until flour is smooth and blended. Slowly add milk, 1/2 & 1/2, sugar, and salt and pepper. Stir until thickened, being careful not to scorch mixture. Remove potatoes from water and chop in bite size pieces. Add potatoes and peas to sauce mixture. Stir well and serve.

This is meant to be a side dish, and works great for that, but we wanted it to me special so we made it our main course and served it like soup. We paired it with a roll and homemade peach jam and fruit. It was heavenly!
